Our Communities Transform Lives

Back on My Feet empowers people experiencing homelessness and addiction to transform their lives and achieve self-sufficiency through the power of running, community, and support services.

WHAT WE DO

Back on My Feet works with individuals in transitional housing and recovery facilities.

Members commit to early morning group runs called "Circle Ups" 3 times a week.

Our volunteers help build community and routine, then Back on My Feet staff provide workforce development and housing support.

HOW IT WORKS

CIRCLE UP

Build health, discipline and accountability by committing to run three mornings per week.

COMMUNITY

Break the cycle of isolation through a consistent support network of volunteer runners and mentors.

NEXT STEPS

Bridge the gap to employment through one-on-one coaching, training and professional workshops.

INDEPENDENCE

Bolster long-term stability with support for job placement, housing, and permanent independence.

A corporate or community team is a group of supporters, coworkers, friends, or family who come together to raise money for Back on My Feet by participating in a 5K. Instead of registering just as individuals, team members combine their efforts under one team name and page, tracking their collective impact toward a shared goal.

How it works:

  • Each team sets up a group fundraising page (with a team captain leading the charge) alongside individual pages for each member
  • Team members set personal fundraising goals that roll up into the team's total
  • Teams can compete for friendly recognition (top fundraising team, most team spirit, etc.) which adds energy and motivation
  • On race day, the team runs or walks together, often in matching shirts or gear
  • Personalize your page. Add a photo and a sentence about why this cause matters to you — personal pages consistently raise more than generic ones.
  • Make a specific ask. “Would you donate $25?” outperforms a link with no number attached, because it removes the guesswork for the giver.
  • Ask early, then ask again. The people who give in week one are often happy to give again — or share your page — closer to race day.
  • Use more than one channel. Someone who ignores an email might respond instantly to a text or a tagged social post — this toolkit gives you all three for a reason.
  • Follow up once. If a first message doesn't get a response within a week, a friendly reminder is welcome, not annoying — most people mean to give and simply forget.
  • Say thank you fast and specifically. A quick, personal thank-you (naming the amount or the impact) makes a donor far more likely to give again next year.
