FAQs

What Is the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York (EFMNY)?

Founded in January 1967, the EFMNY is the largest urban area social service agency in the United States in representation of the Epilepsy cause. The agency mission is to provide Epilepsy education, advocacy, and vital services/supports, not only to individuals and families affected by Epilepsy but also to raise awareness within and beyond our community. Our programs include but are not limited to: individual and family counseling; seizure recognition and first aid trainings; vocational services and supports; and community education advocacy and referrals. For more information, please visit our website efmny.org

When Does the Walk Take Place?

The Walk will be held on Sunday, October 1 from 9 AM - 1 PM at Pier 25, at Hudson River Park, NYC.

How Should I Prepare for the Walk?

If we have an unseasonably inclement day for the Walk (this usually does not happen), please prepare yourself accordingly. The Walk will last four hours, and feel free to bring water and snacks.

How Do I Register as a Team or Individual?

We encourage you and your family, friends, and colleagues to register and to raise funds that are so important for our shared ongoing Epilepsy cause.

* You may create your Team, as the Team Captain, and then direct your kind Supporters to give to your Team. You will set up your Team site with a photo/image, and a short ~100 word story about why you are Walking.

* Or, if you are unable to attend the Walk, you may make a Kind Donation to TEAM EFMNY.

WHY WE WALK

- We walk for the 1 of every 26 persons who will get Epilepsy in their lifetimes.

- We walk to continue providing invaluable social services for the largest urban community in the United States of persons with Epilepsy and Seizures.

- We walk to further promote education and awareness for the vital Epilepsy cause.

- We walk to end the stigmatic adversities faced by persons with Epilepsy.

- We walk to find a cure for Epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York is excited to welcome back our many Teams and Individuals from the New York City community. And we are thrilled to have the continued support of our generous loyal Sponsors. This year, the Walk is free for everyone!

On Sunday, October 1, please plan to join us at the 11th Annual Walk to End Epilepsy in New York City. Together, all of us can make a difference!

We encourage you and your family, friends, and colleagues to register and to raise funds that are so important for our ongoing shared Epilepsy cause.

For every $50 raised, you will receive an event T-shirt. And once you reach $250 and above (5 T-shirts or more), your Team Name will be personalized on the back of your T-shirts. All shirts will be picked up onsite at the walk on Sunday, October 1st.

Please share your Team/Individual information with your personal and professional contacts! And remember that your Supporters may always make a Donation even if they cannot attend the event!

We are excited to invite you to come beside us, as we walk to build community, increase awareness, and raise funds to improve the lives of people impacted by Epilepsy. It's too much to do alone, but together our steps have a powerful impact!

-Elinor LaTouche, MPA, Executive Director
