Downriver R4 Raft Race
This race will be a time trial format on a Class II-III stretch of the Animas River from the 29th St. put-in through Santa Rita Park. Participants will be started in three-minute intervals racing against the clock for the fastest time! Start times will be staggered and assigned on Saturday 6/3 following the close of registration (keep an eye on your email!). Athletes are required to be at the starting line at least 30 minutes prior to their assigned start time for a mandatory safety meeting. Mandatory Safety Equipment: -PFD -Helmet -Protective footwear -Appropriate attire for spring run-off conditions such as a dry-gear, paddling jacket or wetsuit. -Equipment will be reviewed at check-in. The race director has the right to refuse any non-conforming equipment (i.e. bicycle helmets, etc.). Athletes/teams must be able to self-rescue in whitewater conditions and are responsible for their own safety. Event organizers and whitewater rescue teams present on the course are not responsible for equipment rescue or removal from the course. Shuttle: Athletes are responsible for providing their own shuttle between the 29th St. put-in and the take out at Santa Rita Park. Event organizers suggest using either the lower Santa Rita Park take-out or the take-out behind 4Corners Riversports as limited parking is available at Santa Rita during the event. Format, Rules, and Acceptable Boats: - Teams will consists of 4-paddlers per raft. - Teams will provide their own boats and "traditional" rafts are required (i.e. catarafts and alternative crafts will not be permitted). Raft lengths of 13-14' are highly encouraged, but additional lengths will be allowed. - Teams will be started in intervals and are racing against the clock. In the case a raft team catches the team in front of them, a no-contact pass is required. Impeding another team from passing will result in disqualification. - Full competition rules will be provided during the athlete meeting prior to the event.
